Oadby & WIgston U16 v Hinckley Borough U16 03/03/2024

Sunday 3rd March 2024 Today’s Game was a reversed fixture against Hinckley Borough at our home ground. In goal today we had Jodie. Defenders – Ruby, Ella, Kaylee, Hannah and Faye. Midfield – Mabel (c), Nellie, Evie B, Elise, Jess, Evie M and Ellie as our striker. First Half – After a few weeks with no fixtures, the girls were ready to get playing and got stuck straight into the game. After 8 minutes Tilly scored a cracking goal after running the line and taking a big shot. The girls battled their way up and down the pitch and played some great 1-2 passes. Hinckley took a shot which slipped out of Jodie’s hands, hit her knee and unfortunately bounced in. We got stuck straight back in and Evie B took the ball through the defence to score a goal!! The girls were playing lovely football which was great to see. Half time score…. Hinckley Borough 1 – 2 Oadby & Wigston Second Half – We made a few changes and brought Kaylee and Evie M on for Hannah and Mabel. I feel Kaylee played her best game with us today and Evie M really showed she is no longer the new girl and has adapted to the team very well with a great assist to Evie B to get the next goal just a few minutes into the second half. The battle went on and Hinckley played a lot of through balls but our defence were ready to take the challenge on every time. Evie B went on to score a third goal using her skill to get around the Hinckley defence. The whole team did their part all over the pitch and worked hard with the tasks they needed to do. Today’s game showed everyone that they play great as a team with defence making great runs back, Jodie saving some great shots and being the last defender, Midfield creating space & supporting and Ellie putting the pressure on their defence and making some great through balls. Very happy with their performance today!!! Final Score – Hinckley Borough 1 – 4 Oadby & WIgston Player of the match – This was not an easy decision as Wayne and I could have given this to many of you today but the player we chose for this award worked hard all round today with great passes, movement, support and her skill to take people on, also she scored a hat-trick. The award for player of the match goes to EVIE B!!!! you worked hard today and was great to see you work with the team. Wayne and I both had great comments about you today. Well done Evie keep up the good work. Thank you to Richard for running the line and to all our parents/supporters that came to watch us today. Thank you to all for the help with packing everything away every week.

Oadby & Wigston U16 v Gresley Rovers U16 01/02/2024

Sunday 04th February 2024 Today’s Game was against Gresley Rovers U16 at our home ground. In goal today we had Jodie. Defenders – Ruby, Ella, Kaylee, Rebecca, Hannah and Faye. Midfield – Mabel (c), Nellie, Elise, Jess, Evie B and Ellie as our striker. First Half – Todays game was a big one to try and stay in the chance for 2nd Place. Within 3 minutes Gresley scored a quick goal and then again, a few minutes later. Even though they had scored 2 quick goals the girls kept their heads up and carried on. Gresley had a corner and unfortunately an Oadby player hit it into their own goal. By this time, we seemed to struggle to play as a team and were panicking with the ball. Gresley then scored another one which was a great strike into our net. Half time score O&W 0-4 Gresley Rovers Second Half – After a big team talk about the first half our girls went on with a different mindset and I felt we dominated the second the half. We were playing great football and working as a team. We were constantly on the push to score those girls. Mabel came in from outside the 18-yard box and took a shot which gave us our first goal. This then pushed all the girls to dig deep and play like we know they can. We had some great chances but couldn’t find the back of the net. Unfortunately, we ran out of time Final Score – Oadby & Wigston 1 – 4 Gresley Rovers Player of the match – This award goes to a player that showed exactly the skill level she has playing on the Right wing. Throughout the second half, she didn’t stop running into space, having great runs down the line under pressure, setting lovely through balls and great crosses. I was so happy to see her play the way I know she can and clearly shows the right wing is the best position for her. The POTM award goes to TILLY!!!! I am so proud of you on how hard you fought on the pitch today and you showed that you use your technical knowledge of the game well under pressure. It was great seeing you wear your heart on your sleeve and play the way you did. Well done mate! Thank you to Paul for running the line and to all our parents/supporters that came to watch us today. Thank you to Dave for the help with the nets every week.

Oadby & Wigston U16 v Blaby & Whetstone U16 21/01/2024

Sunday 21st January 2024 Today’s Game was against Blaby & Whetstone U16 at our home ground. In goal today we had Jodie. Defenders – Ruby, Ella, Kaylee, Rebecca, Hannah,  and Faye. Midfield – Mabel (c), Nellie, Elise, Jess, Evie M, Evie B and Ellie as our striker. First Half – Todays game was a big game for both teams and we went in with determination to play our best. After 1 minute B&W scored the first goal by opening our defence up. The game then went on as a good battle with exciting shots from our midfield but unfortunately, they were just off target. The wind was getting very strong at this point. The girls were getting frustrated that the ball wasn’t going where they wanted to as we had the wind behind us. The game went on with both teams playing great football. Half time score O&W 0-1 B&W Second Half – Now it was time for us to try and equalise at least, but the wind was starting to get even stronger. I could see the girls were starting to get very frustrated that the game wasn’t going the way they wanted, and B&W made it very difficult for us in this half. We tried to take the ball up but was intercepted by B&W defence most of the time or their goalkeeper as she was completely ready for any ball to come to her. At one point the wind was that strong we struggled to clear the ball out from our 18-yard box but the girls kept the fight going until the end. I couldn’t ask the girls for anymore today, they put up a good fight and worked hard for the team. Final Score – Oadby & Wigston 0 – 2 Blaby & Whetstone U16 Thank you to Blaby & Whetstone for another great game today, it could have gone either way. It’s been a pleasure playing matches against you! The team have great sportsmanship and you’re genuinely a nice team. I wish you all the best for the rest of the season. Player of the match – This award goes to someone that I think had their best game to date with us. She was solid at the back and really took on board everything I have asked from her. In training I have been giving her feedback whilst she is playing and (which I’m sure this isn’t true because I’m a delight 😊) it must be very annoying. You have done amazing today and its great to see you progressing and showing us all that you have the skills to be great! POTM goes to Rebecca! Well done, Rebecca!!! Keep up the good work. Thank you to Rich for running the line and to all our parents/supporters that came to watch us today. Thanks for the help with the nets too. I’m very proud of you all for how far you have come this season and you should be proud of yourselves too. I feel so lucky to have a team like I have with you all wanting to have fun but learn too. The respect you girls show me and Wayne is amazing!!

Oadby & Wigston U16 v Newhall Lionesses U16 14/01/2024

Sunday 14th January 2024 Today’s Game was our first game against Newhall Lionesses U16. In goal today we had Jodie. Defenders – Ruby, Ella, Kaylee, Rebecca, Hannah and Faye. Midfield – Mabel (c), Nellie, Elise, Jess, Tilly, Evie, Evie M and Ellie as our striker. First Half – Before the game, I explained positions will change in the second half which will be phase 2 of seeing what it’s like in other roles. The girls went out ready to play today  after not playing a match for 3 weekends. It was a slow start with some sloppy tackling and passing. In 10 minutes of play Evie B scored the first goal followed by an own goal from Newhall a few minutes later. After this we started playing football with great passes and supporting each other. Ellie scored the next goal from being in the right place at the right time from a great pass across the goal from Tilly, Mabel went on to scoring a cracking top bins in the 28th minute from just inside the 18 yard box followed by another goal 5 minutes later. The girls started to get their flow back but the half time whistle blew. Second Half – After 3 minutes evie scored her second goal of the game by placing it in the bottom right corner. The girls did well even though there was a lot of changes happening to the positions. A penalty was awarded to Newhall after one of our players protected her face with her hands in the 18yard box which our amazing keeper Jodie saved but we wasn’t able to get the rebound and Newhall scored!! Phase 2 of giving the girls insight to other positions was to give them an understanding of what it’s like and how difficult it can be if they didn’t help and support others in their own positions.  Throughout the whole half I changed everyone’s positions and whereas it was difficult to adjust they still did really well. The one that stood out for me was Tilly who normally plays centre mid and her new phase 2 position was a striker. After explaining what I want her to do as a striker from keeping pressure on the defenders, setting up plays to other midfielders and watching for through balls. Wayne also explained on a board of what to watch out for, she did exactly what was asked of her. Whilst being frustrated after shots not on target she still put the work in and did really well.   Final Score – Oadby & Wigston 6 – 1 Newhall Lionesses U16 Thank you to Newhall Lionesses for travelling to play this game. You played really well and the whole team seemed to be very happy and have a good sense of humour. I thought Your goalkeeper did really well today and was ready for anything that came to her. I look forward to playing you again on our next fixture at your home ground. Well done to our newest player Evie M for her first game with us. Even though you were nervous at the start you played really well and like at training for the past few months you always listen and work hard with the team. Player of the match – This award goes to a player that worked the whole time on the pitch today even in your phase 2 position. As captain you were loud and helped your team, played some great football and even scored a cracking top bins goal instead of sending it to the heavens!! Your work ethic today was great. Wayne and I would like to give this to Mabel!!! Well done, Mabel…Keep up the good work mate. Thank you too Rich for running the line, those who helped tidy away and to all of our parents and supporters that came to watch us today.

Oadby & Wigston U16 v Attleborough Sports U16 17/12/2023

Sunday 17th December 2023 Today’s Game was our second game against Attleborough Sports U16, this time at home. In goal today we had Jodie. Defenders – Ruby, Ella, Kaylee, Rebecca, Hannah, Maddison and Faye. Midfield – Mabel (c), Nellie, Elise, Jess, Tilly, Evie and Ellie as our striker. First Half – The game started strong with Attleborough playing some really nice football against us. Mabel took a cracking corner that saw the ball straight into the goal! 10 Minutes into the game Evie had a great run at the keeper and scored the next goal! She then went on to score another 2 goals with the help of the team playing well supporting and passing to keep possession. The opposition goalkeeper did really well moving around her goal area and picking up our through balls. Second Half – Oadby & Wigston went out with a task of playing in the formation we have been doing at training, supporting each other in shapes. The girls did just that and I couldn’t have been happier! Evie scored her 4th goal by placing it in the right-hand corner and then a few minutes later our left back Ella ran the ball all the way up the pitch and cut in to take a great shot across the goal and scored her first goal for the team!! Then another great goal from Evie made it 7-0. 15 minutes before the game finished, I wanted to try something to give the players an idea of what it is like for other players on the team in different positions. It gives them the chance to see if they don’t work hard as a team it puts more pressure on others, so I swapped the defenders and midfielders playing positions. Atlleborough put up a good fight which helped the girls appreciate the other roles in the team. Final Score – Oadby & Wigston 7 – 0 Attleborough Sports U16 Thank you to Attleborough Sports U16 for a great match and was great to see you all working hard. I saw a lot of great attributes from you all with talking and helping each other. After the game had finished you didn’t put your head down and went round shaking all our hands, including mine thanking us for the game. You were all very polite and I wish you the best for the remainder of the season. Player of the match – This award goes to a player that didn’t stop working hard the whole time and I can see you progressing hugely. You played amazing and kept that pressure on no matter what. The position of attacking defender suits you well as you are great at both and happy to help a teammate in a tricky situation. The player of the match goes to JESS!!!! Well done and keep up the good work.

In the second half after a quick chat the girls went out determined with Evie being assisted by her team scored 3 goals and then 1 penalty. Oadby & Wigston U12 v Groby Juniors U12 19/11/2023

Well what a game from the under 12’s! I’ll start by saying that was the best I’ve seen us play. Everyone giving it their all and actually the best passing I’ve seen. There was no messing at the back and fantastic saves as always from Phoebe. Tallulah with the hat-trick narrowly wins player of the match but this was a team effort. With Jess scoring 2 and Paige scoring 1, a fantastic 6-2 home win! Cup game number 2 under our belts.
